Below are some key points to keep in mind.
Important tips for installing your wood-burning stove
Flue Outlet
You can choose to install the flue pipe on top of the stove or have the flue exit from the back. Note that a rear exit requires a strong chimney draft, as this setup creates more resistance for the smoke. Smoke naturally prefers to rise upward, so a rear outlet may need additional adjustments to ensure proper draft.
It is essential that the connection between the stove and the chimney is airtight. Sharp bends and multiple turns in the flue pipe increase resistance and turbulence, which could cause drafting issues, leading to smoke in your living space.
Masonry Chimney
If you have an existing masonry chimney, it must at least be lined. Traditional masonry chimneys often cannot provide adequate draft. The easiest way to renovate a masonry chimney is by using a steel liner. A steel liner heats up quickly, creating the necessary draft while also preventing condensation issues. It is also easy, quick, and cost-effective to install.
Steel Chimney
A stainless steel chimney from TermaTech is designed with draft, installation, design, and insulation in mind. It complies with current regulations for modern wood-burning stoves and is perfectly suited for Danish weather conditions, ensuring optimal draft. For new, airtight homes, we have developed a unique system that seals between the chimney and vapor barrier, ensuring compliance with airtightness requirements.
In newer, airtight homes, it may be necessary to supply combustion air directly to the stove from outside.
Chimney Height
The height of the chimney must comply with current national regulations (Building Code or other applicable standards). Regardless of specific regulations, the chimney should always be high enough to direct smoke away without causing inconvenience to the surroundings and to ensure proper draft for combustion.
For roofs with a slope up to 5°, the chimney must extend at least 1 meter above the roof surface. For slopes between 5° and 20°, the chimney must extend at least 40 cm above the roof ridge or 1 meter from the roof surface. For slopes above 20°, the chimney must extend at least 40 cm above the ridge or maintain a horizontal distance of at least 2.30 meters from the roof surface.
Within a 15-meter radius, there must be at least 1 meter from the chimney top to the upper edges of ventilation intakes, windows, and doors.

After Installing the Wood-Burning Stove
Once your new wood-burning stove is installed, the installation must be inspected by the local chimney sweep. The chimney sweep will check that distances to combustible materials are maintained and that the installation meets all applicable standards.
Note: The chimney sweep does not inspect the installation of vapor barriers or roof penetrations—this must be arranged with your installer.
For each of our stove models, you can find specifications and download a user manual to review what to pay attention to, the rules for your specific stove model, and detailed installation instructions.
